The Ever-Widening Gap Between Home Prices and Incomes Disrupts Recruiting
As housing costs continue to soar across the United States, the dream of homeownership is slipping further and further out of reach for the average American. A recent report from the National Low Income Housing Coalition found that the typical hourly wage needed to afford a modest one-bedroom rental is now $23.67 – over three times the federal minimum wage.
But the situation has only grown more dire in 2024, with real estate experts warning that the typical home buyer now needs to earn a staggering $120,000 per year to qualify for a
median-priced home.

Case Study: Successful Senior Accountant Placement
In November of 2023, our firm was engaged by a client to assist with the search for a senior accountant. Initially, the client believed they needed a highly experienced accountant with a strong background in General Electric and financial reporting. The client was open to the candidate being based in either Boise or Salt Lake City, considering their business operations in those locations.
Challenges Faced:
During the course of the search assignment, we encountered several challenges that required flexibility and adaptability. Firstly, after extending an offer to a candidate, the client’s leadership decided to transform the position into an accounting manager role with a focus on management skills. This change necessitated a reevaluation of the search assignment and strategy, requiring us to go back to the drawing board.
Refining the Search Assignment:
To ensure a more accurate search assignment, we scheduled weekly calls with the client throughout February, March, and April. These calls provided an opportunity to discuss and solidify the refined requirements for the position. By collaborating closely with the client, we aimed to align their expectations and needs more effectively.
Urgency and Timely Placement:
In mid-May, a sudden departure within the client’s organization created an urgent need for a senior accountant. The client required someone to fill the position within a two-week timeframe. Understanding the time sensitivity, we promptly presented a candidate who possessed the desired qualifications. However, this candidate declined the offer, necessitating a swift response.
Persistence and Successful Placement:
Undeterred by the initial setback, we immediately initiated a search for another suitable candidate. We identified and submitted a second candidate who met the client’s requirements. Fortunately, this candidate accepted the offer within the two-week window, allowing them to start at the beginning of June. Despite the challenges and time constraints, we remained committed to providing the best opportunities for both our clients and candidates.
Conclusion:
The senior accountant placement for our client showcases our ability to navigate complex situations and deliver optimal outcomes. We strive to maintain open communication, actively listen to our clients’ changing needs, and leverage our expertise to secure successful placements. This case study serves as a testament to our commitment to providing unparalleled service and ensuring the satisfaction of both our clients and candidates.
